Context: ₹1 Lakh-Crore Job Scheme for Private Sector Seekers (Independence Day, 15 Aug 2025)

Scheme

  • Name: Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana

  • Budget: ₹1 lakh crore

  • Beneficiaries: ~35 million (first-time private-sector job seekers)

  • Incentive: One-time ₹15,000 for each eligible youth.

Objectives

  • Encourage youth employment in the private sector.

  • Convert India’s demographic potential into economic & social prosperity.

  • Promote self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) by pushing local manufacturing.

  • Create a bridge from “Swatantra Bharat” (Free India) → “Samriddha Bharat” (Prosperous India).

Global & Economic Context

  • Rising “economic selfishness” worldwide; countries prioritizing domestic production.

  • US tariffs on India (50%):

    • Much higher than India’s neighbours & peers.

    • Could hurt ~1% of India’s GDP (per analysts).

    • Undermines Indian exports.

PM’s Key Points

  • Boost local manufacturing across sectors: fertilisers, jets, EV batteries, etc.

  • Empower youth to actively contribute to national progress.

  • Youth employment is central to India’s development strategy.

Complementary Govt Initiative

  • Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme (approved 1 July 2025):

    • Govt pays 1 month’s wages to fresh private-sector recruits.

    • Employers hiring them get financial incentives.

    • Aim: Boost job creation + skill development.

Significance

  • Youth-centric scheme—direct financial support to new entrants in the job market.

  • Stimulus for private-sector hiring during global economic stress.

  • Potential to mitigate export losses by expanding domestic industries & jobs.
