Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI)

Objective
To develop exemplar schools that demonstrate all components of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including holistic learning, digital education, skill integration, and environmental sustainability.
Coverage
Target: More than 14,500 schools across India.
As of October 2024, 10,855 schools have been implemented.
Selection Method: Challenge Mode - Schools compete to qualify as PM SHRI institutions.
Limitation: Maximum two schools per block (one elementary, one secondary/senior secondary).
Some states have refused participation, citing dissatisfaction with implementation norms.
Key Features
Model Schools: Act as role models for implementing NEP 2020 at the ground level.
Digital Infrastructure:
Smart classrooms, digital libraries, laboratories.
ICT-based learning for interactive education.
Environmental Sustainability:
Solar panels, LED lighting, waste management systems.
Plastic-free zones, rainwater harvesting, and nutrition gardens.

Impact: Increased student enrollment and improved learning outcomes (2023–24 survey).
Implementation Mechanism
Schools add the prefix “PM SHRI” to their existing names upon selection.
Financial support includes both infrastructure and capacity-building grants.
Continuous monitoring and evaluation through the Ministry of Education portal.
- Geo-tagging of schools for selection and monitoring of PM SHRI schools will be done with the support of Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N)
- PM-SHRI funds are directly linked to a state's commitment to adhering to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework.
