  1. Deployment & Participation

    • Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Trikand (built by the Yantar shipyard in KaliningradRussia Talwar-class) arrived at Alexandria, Egypt as part of operational deployment in the Mediterranean.

    • Participating in Exercise Bright Star (Sept 1–10, 2025) – one of the largest multilateral military drills in the Middle East & North Africa region.

  2. About Exercise Bright Star

    • Hosted by Egypt, under the aegis of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

    • Brings together air, land, and maritime forces → focus on jointness, interoperability, and hybrid threat scenarios.

    • Participating nations: India, Egypt, USA, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Greece, Cyprus, Italy.

  3. India’s Tri-Service Engagement

    • Along with the Navy, Indian Army and Indian Air Force contingents are also participating.

    • Marks a tri-service engagement, enhancing India’s profile as a net security provider in the extended neighborhood.

  4. Strategic Significance

    • Maritime Diplomacy: Strengthens India–Egypt naval ties, reinforcing India’s West Asia and North Africa outreach.

    • Interoperability: Builds operational synergy with major powers (USA, Saudi, Greece, Italy) and regional partners.

    • Geostrategic Presence: Ensures Indian Navy’s operational footprint in the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea corridor, crucial for energy & trade routes.

    • Security Cooperation: Addresses hybrid threats like terrorism, piracy, and cyber–maritime challenges.

    • Supports India’s Act West Policy and complements initiatives like IORA and Indo–Mediterranean partnerships.
