Gujarat Factory Law Amendment, 2025
Context: The Gujarat government has amended the Factories Act, 1948 via the Factories (Gujarat Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, effective July 1, introducing key changes:
1. Night Shifts for Women

Women can now work night shifts (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.).

Written consent from female workers.

CCTV surveillance, adequate lighting, female security personnel, safe transport.

2. Working Hours Extended

Daily limit increased from 9 to 12 hours (with breaks).

Weekly cap remains 48 hours.

Written consent of employees required for 12-hour shifts.
3. Overtime Provisions

Overtime wages continue at double the regular rate.

Quarterly overtime limit increased from 75 to 125 hours (with worker consent).
4. Other Changes

Maximum continuous working time without a break raised from 5 to 6 hours.
