Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE)
1. Context
The Services Sector contributes over 50% of India’s GDP and employs millions, but consistent data on the incorporated services sector is missing.
While the unincorporated sector is already covered by ASUSE (Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises), the incorporated (registered) segment lacks a regular national-level survey.
2. Objective
To fill the data gap on the economic, operational, and employment characteristics of incorporated service sector enterprises.
To generate industry-wise and State/UT-wise data for evidence-based policymaking, investment planning, and national accounts.
3. Nodal Agency
Conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
4. Sampling Frame
Based on the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) dataset.
Covers incorporated entities under three broad categories:
Construction
Trade
Other Services (Transport, Accommodation & Food, ICT, Health, Education, Real Estate, etc.)
Significance
Will be the first comprehensive annual survey exclusively on the incorporated service sector.
Aims to:
Bridge a major statistical gap.
Enhance policy relevance of service sector data.
Support accurate GDP estimation, employment planning, and sectoral reforms.
